Often Used Major Bible editions:

The King James Version [KJV]
This edition was authorized by King James I of England in 1604. This "new" translation was finished in 1611 and became the standard for English-speaking Protestants. The firts English New Testament translation was done by Tyndale in 1526. The omnipresent KJV influenced countless writers and poets, and western civilization ever since its apperance. The KJV is in public domain even in the United States (recently the US unilaterally and retroactively raised it's copyright "protection" to 75 years!).

New International Version [NIV]
This newer English translation is rapidly becaming the standard for English-speaking Protestants.
